What Is BASC? Before and After School Care Explained
BASC is licensed childcare for children from Kindergarten through Grade 6 who need supervised care before school starts and/or after school ends. At Daisy Days, our BASC program covers four time windows:
- Morning BASC (7:30am until school bell): Structured morning program with children arriving before school opens.
- Afternoon BASC (school dismissal until 6:00pm): Children picked up from school and returned to Daisy Days for supervised programming until parent pickup.
- Non-school days (PD days, spring break, statutory holiday gaps): Full-day programming when school is closed but parents are working.
- Summer programming (late June-Labour Day): Full-day summer care for school-age children during the 10-12 week summer break.
CWELCC and BASC: Does the Subsidy Apply?
Yes. Licensed BASC programs at CWELCC-enrolled centres like Daisy Days qualify for the $10/day average subsidized fee, including summer programming. Before CWELCC, full-day BASC in Regina cost $400-$700 per month. Under CWELCC at Daisy Days, the subsidized fee is dramatically lower. Families can also claim BASC fees on the federal T778 Child Care Expense Deduction.
Summer Childcare for School-Age Children in Regina SK
Summer is the most challenging childcare period for parents of school-age children. Options in Regina SK:
- Licensed daycare summer programming (Daisy Days): Full-day structured programming, CWELCC-eligible at $10/day. The only option combining CWELCC eligibility, licensed oversight, and full-summer continuous coverage.
- City of Regina summer recreation programs: Half-day or single-week themed programs — not full-day continuous care solutions.
- Summer day camps: Weekly themed programs, variable quality, typically higher cost per week than CWELCC-subsidized care.
- Informal arrangements: No CWELCC eligibility, no regulatory oversight.
Summer BASC Planning Timeline
- January-February: Contact Daisy Days to inquire about summer programming availability
- March: Confirm your summer enrollment
- April: Complete enrollment paperwork for any newly enrolling school-age children
- Late June: Last school day transitions directly into summer programming
Non-School Day Coverage Throughout the Year
Beyond the summer, Daisy Days BASC covers all non-school days: PD days from both Regina Public and Catholic School Divisions, spring break, and school holidays. We publish our annual non-school day calendar in September to help families plan in advance. Saskatchewan has 11 statutory holidays per year when Daisy Days is closed — you are not billed for these days.
