Why Daycare in Regina SK Is Different in 2026
The CWELCC program has fundamentally changed the daycare landscape in Regina SK. Licensed childcare that once cost $45-65/day now costs approximately $10/day at enrolled centres — making quality licensed daycare the most cost-effective childcare option for the vast majority of Regina SK families.
The Basics: Licensed vs. Unlicensed Daycare in Regina SK
Licensed daycare in Regina SK is regulated by Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Education under The Child Care Act, 2014. Licensed centres must meet mandatory standards for ratios, ECE qualifications, programming, and safety — and are inspected regularly. Only licensed centres are CWELCC-eligible.
Unlicensed childcare (informal home care, unregistered babysitters) is unregulated, uninspected, and not CWELCC-eligible. At $25-50/day for informal care vs. $10/day for licensed, there is no longer a cost advantage to unlicensed care for most Regina SK families.
