Pickup Verbal Update — Every Day

At the end of every day, your child’s educator provides a brief verbal update at pickup covering:

• General emotional and social experience of the day — “He had a great afternoon and was really into building with the blocks”
• What your child ate at meals and snacks (particularly helpful for toddlers and infants)
• Anything notable — a new word, a friendship moment, a minor tumble, a behavioural challenge that was addressed
• Anything requiring follow-up at home — “She was scratching at her ear today, might be worth watching”

Written Daily Log — Infant Room

Infant room families receive a written daily log (paper or digital) that includes:

• Feed times and amounts (breastmilk or formula — volume or duration)
• Sleep times — when down, when up, duration
• Diaper changes and any notable stool
• Activities — tummy time, outdoor stroller time, sensory play
• Any health or behaviour observations

Email Communication

Non-urgent written communication can be sent to info@daisydaysdaycare.com — we respond during business hours. For newsletter-type communications, policy updates, and program announcements, email is the primary channel to enrolled families.

Phone Communication

For urgent matters during the day — a child who needs to be picked up due to illness, a significant incident — Daisy Days Daycare calls the emergency contacts on file. We reach the primary contact first and work down the list. Keep your contact information current.

When Daisy Days Daycare Will Always Contact You

• A significant injury or medical incident involving your child
• Your child is unwell and needs to be picked up
• A child protection concern (required by law)
• A centre closure or schedule change that affects pickup
• Any incident involving your child and another child that involved physical harm

When Parents Should Contact Daisy Days Daycare

• When your child will be absent (call or text by 8:30 AM so we adjust ratios and food planning)
• When your child is unwell and may not be able to attend — describe symptoms and we’ll advise under our sick child policy
• When there’s a change in pickup arrangements or authorized pickup people

Requesting a Formal Parent-Educator Meeting

Pickup-time conversations are brief by necessity — a busy educator cannot have a 20-minute developmental discussion at 5:15 PM while monitoring other children. For anything significant — developmental concerns, a recurring pattern, a specific request about curriculum — request a scheduled meeting with the room educator and/or Director. These meetings are standard and welcomed at Daisy Days Daycare.
