Daisy Days Daycare fully supports breastfeeding families. Here’s how breastmilk feeding works in our infant room:

Preparing and Labeling

• All breastmilk containers (bottles or storage bags) must be clearly labeled with your child’s full name and the date the milk was expressed
• Label each container — not just the bag or case they travel in
• Use childcare-specific labels or waterproof labels that won’t fall off refrigeration surfaces

Storage at Daisy Days Daycare

• Breastmilk is refrigerated immediately upon arrival at our facility in your child’s designated storage area
• Fresh breastmilk stored in a refrigerator is used within 4 days per Health Canada guidelines
• Frozen breastmilk should be sent in the quantity needed for the day (thawed the previous night in the refrigerator at home); we do not typically thaw frozen breastmilk at the centre

Warming and Feeding

• Breastmilk is warmed using a warm water bath — never a microwave (microwaves destroy beneficial properties and create dangerous hot spots)
• Bottles are warmed per your baby’s individual preference and your instructions
• Your baby is fed by an educator holding the bottle — not propped
• Leftover breastmilk after a feed is discarded within 1-2 hours (per Health Canada guidelines for used bottles)

What to Send

• Pre-measured powdered formula in individual containers (many families use formula dispensers or small labeled containers with single servings of powder)
• Or ready-to-feed formula in sealed, labeled containers

• All containers labeled with your child’s name

Daisy Days Daycare follows your baby’s individual feeding schedule — not a group schedule. Infants are fed when they show hunger cues, on their own rhythm. Parents provide feeding schedule information at enrollment (e.g., “She typically feeds at 8 AM, 11 AM, 2 PM, 5 PM and usually takes 4 oz”) and we follow your baby’s patterns, communicating daily about what actually happened.

Transitioning to Solids at Daycare

When your infant begins solid foods (typically around 6 months), this becomes part of the daycare feeding plan:

• Parents introduce new foods at home first — not at daycare. This ensures allergic reactions can be properly monitored by a parent.
• Once a food is established at home, you can send it for daycare feeds
• Label all food containers with your child’s name and the food contained
• Note any known food sensitivities or allergies in your child’s file
